THE Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of Redemption FM, Abak, Akwa-Ibom State, Bishop (Prof.) Ahaziah Umanah, has commended the Nigerian Copyright Commission (NCC) for the provision of vital contents for the station’s broadcast programmes through its enlightenment materials and public sensitisation on copyright matters.
The NCC State Coordinator, Mr. Elijah Akpan, who disclosed this, stated that the commendation was made during an advocacy visit by operatives of the NCC Uyo Office to Redemption FM Station, Abak and XL FM, Station in Uyo, Akwa Ibom State on 8th June 2022.
He said Bishop Umanah, a renowned author and copyright stakeholder, assured the NCC of his station’s readiness to disseminate educative and meaningful contents to its teeming audience.
He lauded the role of the pioneer Director-General of the Commission, Mr. Moses Ekpo, in the establishment of the Commission and urged the staff to sustain and improve upon his legacies.
The State Coordinator expressed the Commission’s gratitude to the Management of the Radio Station for their goodwill and solidarity in publicising the Commission’s activities at no cost. He solicited for continuous support in the area of public sensitisation and enlightenment.
Mr. Akpan used the forum to stress the need for payment of royalties through legitimate platforms to right owners in order to encourage creativity.
The Station’s Manager of XL FM, Uyo, Mr. Ugochukwu Bamidele, who represented the Chief Executive Officer of the Station, assured the NCC of its support and promised that the economic and moral rights of right owners would not be abused in the course of its operations. He informed that the station has not wavered in the payment of basic remunerations to genuine right owners whose creative works were being used.
During the visit, the State Coordinator presented some branded gifts to the Radio Stations, including copies of the Commission’s newsletter, COPYRIGHT MATTERS, and copyright enlightenment fliers.
