Taiwo Ajai Lycett

Taiwo Ajai Lycett is a renowned Nigerian Journalist, actress and television presenter who was born on the 3rd of February 1941.

Lycett is an all rounder in the creative world whose skills have seen her feature shoulder to shoulder with some of the best acts on screen and stage both at the local and international scenes.

Since her debut role in the play’The Lion and the Jewel’ by Wole Soyinka in 1966, she has starred in the following movies: Murderous Angels (1971); The Refusal (1973); Life Everlasting (1973); The National Health (1974); The Black and White Mistress (1974); The Honourable (1992); King of the Boys; Return of the King(2021); Elesin Oba (1975) and the popular television sitcom ‘Some Mother’s Do Have Them’ in which she featured alongside the great English actor Frank Spencer.

As a journalist, Ajai Lycett has worked in a number of organizations and was Editor of ‘African’s Women Magazine’, a women’s magazine for Africans in the diaspora.

Lycett has received many accolades and recognition at home and abroad. On October 1, 2006 the Nigerian government under the then President Olusegun Obasanjo gave her the national award of Officer of the Order of the Niger,(OON).

Ajayi Lycett was honoured at an all star gala night held at Theatre Royal Stratford East in February 2008 and has also been recognized with Industry Merit Award 2022 from African Magic Viewers Choice Awards and she is also a Fellow of the Society of Nigerian Theatre Artists (SONTA).

This remarkable creator is indeed Nigeria’s creative and cultural ambassador to the world whose distinguished career has shown the creative prowess of Nigerians.
