Publishers Urged to Promote Readership as Uyo Office Marks 2024 World Book and Copyright Day

PUBLISHERS in Akwa Ibom State have been challenged to step up their activities for production of books to promote readership and participation in local and international book fairs.
This was stated by the Chairman of the 2024 World Book and Copyright Day (WBCD) celebration in the State and Founder, Uyo Book Club, Dr. Udeme Nana during the celebration in Uyo on 23rd April 2024.
Dr. Nana, eulogised UNESCO for the choice of the 2024 WBCD theme and the Commission for celebrating one of Nigeria’s literary icons who is recognized globally, Professor WoIe Soyinka. He suggested that other literary icons be celebrated in future.
In his goodwill message, the Special Guest of the day, Consultant for Akwa Ibom Talent Foundation and Special Assistant to Akwa Ibom State Governor on Entertainment Industry Affairs, Pastor Moses Eskor, said he was delighted to collaborate with the Commission towards realising the goals of the Foundation, promoting up-coming talents across the country. Pastor Eskor who is also the representative of the founder of Akwa Ibom Talent Foundation, Bishop (Dr.) Daniel Jack, called on participants to encourage and promote the reading culture as it enhances creativity.
The State Coordinator (SC), Mr. Elijah Akpan thanked the guests for gracing the occasion. He particularly thanked the Akwa Ibom Talent Foundation for providing the venue for the WBCD celebration and called on stakeholders to partner with the Commission to encourage book production and readership.
Highlight of the event was the reading of the DG, NCC’s Statement by the SC, Uyo Office, Mr. Akpan as well as Professor WoIe Soyinka’s good will message . Enwongo Cleopas-Akwa Esq. recited Prof. Soyinka’s poem, ‘Abiku’, to the audience.
Goodwill messages were presented by Mr. Samuel Udom of Samuf Publishers and Akwa Ibom State PMAN Governor, Comrade Evang. Joshua Offiong. Dr. & Dr. Mrs. Uduak Akpan of Everpraise International thrilled guests with one of their popular songs, Be the Best.
