Oludotun Baiyewu Jacobs, professionally known as Olu Jacobs, was born on July 11, 1942. He trained at the Royal Academy of Dramatic Arts, England, where he honed his skills in stage and film acting. With a career spanning over five decades, Olu Jacobs has appeared in more than two hundred movies, both locally and internationally.
On the international scene, he played pivotal roles in widely acclaimed movies such as Ashanti, Dogs of War, and Pirates. On the local scene, the legendary Olu Jacobs, made a grand entry into the Nollywood industry in the early 80s and has impacted the Nigeria movie industry significantly. He was also a major star in the popular Nigerian television soap opera, The Third Eye, produced in the 1990s. Olu Jacobs used his vast acting experience across continents to influence many upcoming artists and could be rightly regarded as a legend of the movie industry in Nigeria.
He is a multi-award-winning actor who has won several career awards, including the African Movie Academy Award for Best Actor in a Leading Role in 2007; Africa Magic Viewers Choice Awards in 2013; African Movie Academy Awards (AMAA) in 2016; and Audio Visual Rights Society (AVRS) Icon Award in 2022. The Nigerian government has also recognised his talent and contributions to the creative sector, leading to his receiving a National Honours award as Member of Federal Republic (MFR).
