THE Nigerian Publishers Association (NPA) has honoured the Director-General, NCC, Dr, John O. Asein decorating him as a Fellow of the Publishers Institute of Nigeria (PIN). This decoration was carried out at the Annual Conference of the Association held on November 28, 2024, in Lagos, themed “Publishing in the Age of Artificial Intelligence.”
The DG who was the Keynote speaker, emphasized the need for robust copyright frameworks and collaboration between AI and human intelligence to enhance content creation. He noted that the coming of AI had opened many perspectives and discourse on the relationship between copyright and AI. The DG noted that there was still a lot to be explored in the use of AI which would benefit the creative sector.
The event also featured the presentation of awards to industry leaders who have contributed significantly to the growth of Nigeria’s publishing sector.
On a related note, the Chairman, Board of Directors, Music Copyright Society of Nigeria MCSN Mr. Orits Wiliki has commended the DG NCC,Dr. John O. Asein particularly on the enforcement strides of the Commission which has gone a long way in checking piracy in the music sector.
Mr. Wiliki said this at the 2024 Annual General Meeting on Thursday, December 12, 2024, at the Banquet Hall of the Airport Hotel, Ikeja, Lagos.
The MCSN Chairman said the organization has been successful due to the strong backing of the DG and his Team. Also speaking at the event, the Director General and Chief Executive Officer of MCSN, Mr. Mayo Ayilaran, also appreciated the unwavering support of the NCC, reiterating his confidence in MCSN’s continued steady growth, which he described as the foundation of a long-lasting and stable organisation.
Delivering the goodwill message on behalf of the NCC Director General, the Director, NCC Lagos Office, Mrs. Lynda Alphaeus, congratulated MCSN on the hosting of 2024 AGM expressing NCC’s satisfaction with MCSN’s remarkable progress, particularly the transition from analogue to digital compilation of logs.
Mrs. Alphaeus emphasised that the era of manually tracking the usage of creative works is over, pledging the Commission’s continued support to ensure MCSN’s success.
