Nigerian Copyright Commission Poised to Mark 30th Anniversary, DG Inaugurates Celebration Committee

As Nigerian Copyright Commission (NCC) gears up to mark its 30th Anniversary on 19thAugust 2019, the Director-General, Mr. John Asein has declared that the Commission has good reasons to celebrate its triple decades of protecting creativity across the country.

Stating that the upcoming Anniversary celebration should demonstrate the Commission’s preparedness to birth a new dawn in the wellbeing of the creative industries, the Director-General made these declarations in Abuja on Thursday, 14th February 2019 while inaugurating the Commission’s 30th Anniversary Celebration Committee at the Headquarters.

According to him, there was a need to mark the 30th Anniversary of the Commission to detail the history and essence of its existence and performance in enhancing the protection of copyright and development of the creative industries in Nigeria.

“We should maximize the Anniversary celebration to create awareness on who we are, what we do and stand for as an agency committed to the promotion of copyright and the development of the creative industries,” he stated.

The anniversary celebration, he stated, should ensure the buy-in and participation of all stakeholders while creating a positive and enduring impact such that the Commission, all the copyright based industries and development partners could leverage on for sustainable development of the national economy.

The Director-General charged the 14-member NCC 30th Anniversary Committee, chaired by the Director of Planning, Research and Statistics (PRS), Mr. Mike Akpan, to draw a dynamic blue print for celebration of the anniversary. Other members of the Anniversary Committee are the Director of Prosecution, Mr. Obi Ezeilo;  Director, Public Affairs, Mr. Vincent A. Oyefeso; Deputy Director, Finance and Accounts, Mr. Martins Etete; Deputy Director, Enforcement, Mr. Effiong Nkereuwem; Assistant Director, Prosecution, Mr. Muslim Oke; Assistant Director, Regulatory, Mrs. Susan Bashorun; Assistant Director, PRS, Mr. Collins Nweke; Assistant Director, PRS, Mr. Emeka Ofonagoro; AD/Internal Auditor, Mr. Babatunde Salami;  Assistant Director, Public Affairs, Mr. Ijeoma Egbunike; Chief Research Officer, Mrs Folashade Sheba; Chief Copyright Officer, Mr. Peter Edokobi and Principal Admin Officer, Mrs Nelly Ayua.

He charged the Committee to come up with an Anniversary theme and slogan, work out a road map and budget for the celebration and secure endorsements of and partnership with frontline personalities in the creative and copyright industries.

The Director-General urged the Committee to network with the Commission’s State Coordinators for their input and participation in the Anniversary celebration.
