THE Uyo Office of the Commission recently confiscated about 2,222 suspected pirated books worth N1.5m from Chitez Bookshop located at No. 17 Gracebill Road, Eket in Akwa Ibom State with the arrest of one suspect during an anti-piracy operation on 18th October 2023.
The State Coordinator, Mr. Elijah Akpan, disclosed that the operation was embarked upon following proactive intelligence gathering through surveillance and inspection of bookshops to check the influx of pirated books within the jurisdiction of the NCC Uyo Office, during the 2023 book season.
The operation was carried out by Operatives of the Commission at Uyo Office backed by armed Policemen on the discovery of stocked books suspected to be pirated copies at the bookshop.
Investigation is ongoing while the arrested suspect is assisting the NCC operatives with useful information towards the successful prosecution of the case.
