OFFICIALS of the Nigerian Copyright Commission (NCC) were among the participants of first phase of the Audiovisual Policy Academy’s Executive Programme.
The first part of the programme aimed at empowering policymakers and regulators in the audiovisual industry, was held at the Transcorp Hilton, Abuja, from 18th to 22nd November 2024.
The 12-months executive development programme, organised by the International Institute of Communication (IIC) in collaboration with Netflix, African Practice, European University Institute, and Lagos Business School, focuses on building capacity in governance, policymaking, and regulation.
In her goodwill message, Director-General of IIC, Mrs. Lynn Robinson, praised participants for their enthusiasm and commitment to tackling challenges in the rapidly changing audiovisual landscape.
Also speaking at the event, Director of Public Policy at Netflix, Ms. Shola Sanni, expressed confidence that the programme would foster connections among stakeholders and drive innovative policies.
NCC participants’ representative, Deputy Director of PRS, Mrs. Folashade Sheba, highlighting on the impact of the training, expressed appreciation for the opportunity to attend, noting that they have gained further valuable insights into copyright, intellectual property, and policy-making.
The programme consists of in-person classroom sessions, virtual learning, and policy dialogue roundtables, covering five key policy areas. The first phase concluded with a certificate presentation/ awards ceremony and Gala Night, providing opportunities for networking with policymakers, industry experts, and programme partners.
The Director-General, NCC and special guest at the Gala, Dr. John O. Asein was represented by Director, Public Affairs, Mrs. Ijeoma Egbunike. Others in attendance were various agencies regulating the Audiovisual Industry, including Heads of the Nigerian Film Corporation, Nigerian Film Video Censors Board, and the Nigerian Broadcasting Commission.
Other NCC participants included: Mr. Kunle Olatunji, Assistant Director, Regulatory & Compliance; Ms. Oyebola Oyewo, Assistant Director, Public Affairs and Mr. Kenneth Omenwa, Assistant Director, Operations.
