NCC Partners Police, NSCDC for Copyright Protection, Urges Printers to Shun Piracy

THE Nigerian Copyright Commission (NCC) has renewed its interagency collaboration with the Nigeria Police and Nigerian Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) in Benin, Edo State.

The State Coordinator, NCC Benin Office, Mr. Joseph Ajang who disclosed this, stated that the renewed partnership emerged during consultative visits by Copyright Inspectors to the Police Zonal Headquarters in Benin on 1st September 2022 and Edo State Command of NSCDC on 14th September 2022.

He said deliberations with the Police focussed on consolidating inter-agency partnership and security support of the Police for enforcement interventions of NCC, especially during the book season.

Mr. Ajang added that the Assistant Inspector-General of Police (AIG) in charge of Edo State Zone 5 Command, Edo State, Mr. Jemita Tanko appreciated the visit of the NCC team to his office while assuring of Police security backup for the Commission during its enforcement operations.

In a related development, the State Coordinator, Benin Office, Mr. Ajang led a delegation of NCC Officers on a courtesy visit to the Edo State Command of the NSCDC with a view to boosting antipiracy collaboration for activities of the book season. Mr. Ajang was received by the State Commandant, NSCDC Edo Command, Mr. S.O. Dan at the Corps Headquarters in Benin. He said the Commandant assured that his Command would provide adequate security personnel to enable the Commission carry out its statutory mandates in the State.

Meanwhile, the Nigerian Copyright Commission (NCC) has called on members of the Association of Professional Printers of Nigeria (ASSPPON), an affiliate body of the Chartered Institute of Professional Printers of Nigeria (CIPPON) to shun negative practices in order to guaranty respect for copyright in the printing Industry.

The State Coordinator, NCC Benin Office, Mr. Joseph Ajang made the call while representing the Commission at an event organised by the Delta Chapter of ASSPPON in Warri, Delta State on the 30th August 2022. He enlightened the stakeholders on the basic requirements of the Copyright Act in the Printing Industry as enshrined in the Act. He charged them to adhere to the requirements of the Act, promote high standards of professionalism and avoid acts of piracy in the printing industry.

The State Chairman, ASSPPON, Mr. Ikharehon Ose and the Zonal Chairman, Mr. James Okeme assured of the Association’s readiness to collaborate with the NCC to curb piracy in the book industry.

He expressed delight at the representation of the Commission at the event while also making a request for more frequent sensitization of their members to keep them abreast of trends in the copyright industry, particularly as it affects the book and printing industry.
