NCC Partners PMAN Towards Resolving Lingering Music Industry Issues

THE Nigerian Copyright Commission (NCC) is on the verge of partnering with the Performing Musicians Employers Association of Nigeria (PMAN) in order to resolve lingering disagreements in the music industry.

Director-General, NCC, Dr. John O. Asein gave this indication while speaking as guest during the media launch of PMAN Biometric Identity Card Project organised by PMAN in collaboration with Zenith Bank, at Eko Hotel in Lagos, 25th August 2022.

The Director-General assured that the Commission would partner with PMAN to resolve all disagreements in the music sector.

“Let’s work together to resolve whatever disagreements you may have in the music sector. You are the stars and stars can help other stars to get better. The soul of PMAN are the musicians and we must keep the music going. Therefore, we must continually cater for the musicians who make this possible. NCC will work with you to make this happen.” he remarked.

Dr. Asein further urged Nigerian musicians to maintain unity, adding that being united would boost their profession. ‘’You would be amazed at what you would achieve if you remain united and work together” he added.

He expressed gratitude to PMAN members for supporting the Commission in carrying out its mandate.

The Director-General further lauded PMAN for being one of the major stakeholders who lent their voice at the public hearing of the Copyright Bill last year, the passage of the Bill being a fall out of NCC’s collaboration with stakeholders like PMAN.

 IN a related development, Director-General, NCC, Dr. John O. Asein has hailed veteran actor, Olu Jacobs for his visible role in the growth of the Nigerian movie industry. Dr. Asein noted that he was among the pioneers of the Industry.

Represented by the Director, NCC Lagos Office, Mr. Matthew Ojo, the Director-General paid the tribute during the Audio Visual Rights Society (AVRS) Icon Awards ceremony held at Glover Hall, Lagos on 3rd August 2022.

While congratulating Mr. Jacobs for being a recipient of AVRS Icon Award, Dr. Asein gave assurances that the Nigerian Copyright Commission would continue to work hard to protect the creative works.
