NCC Partners ABU, Zaria, on Copyright

The Nigerian Copyright Commission has indicated commitment to partnership with the Ahmadu Bello University, Zaria to boost copyright knowledge and development of creativity.

Director-General, NCC, Dr. John O. Asein stated this during the first conference of the Faculty of Environmental Design, Ahmadu Bello University, Zaria held from Monday, 28th to Friday, 2nd July, 2021.

The theme of the conference was, “The Environment: Sustainable Development and Emerging Possibilities”, with a sub-theme on “Celebrating Oneness in Creativity”

Dr. Asein enlightened the gathering on the importance of the copyright e-registration system introduced by the Commission in line with the Copyright Act. He stressed the need for the academics and right owners to take advantage of the programme.

The Director-General informed the participants of the Commission’s efforts towards the activation of the Order on levy of copyright materials which would further encourage creativity.

Dr. John O. Asein used the forum to acknowledge the presence of Dr. (Mrs) Alewai Jidai Mamza, a member of the Commission’s Governing Board, and commended her for her commitment and untiring efforts on copyright matters.

The welcome address was delivered by the Dean, Faculty of the University’s Environmental Design, Prof. Umar A. A. Sullayman.

The Director General Mr. John O. Asein thanked the organisers, especially the Dean, Faculty of Environmental Design, Prof. U. A. A. Sullayman, for the opportunity to speak on copyright matters as an important tool of creativity.

The peak of the conference was the exhibition declared open by Director-General. The exhibition showcased arts, designs and technology.

Alongside the conference was the Copyright Clinic put in place by the Commission under the supervision of the Director, NCC Kaduna Office, Mr. Hassan Usman.

 

The Director-General was accompanied by the Director, Nigerian Copyright Academy (NCA) of NCC, Mr. Michael Akpan.
