NCC Moves to Strengthen Collaboration with FRSC, DJAN

IN continuation of its synergy with relevant Government institutions and stakeholders, the Nigerian Copyright Commission, Port-Harcourt Office, paid a courtesy call on the Federal Road Safety Office (FRSC) in Port-Harcourt, the Rivers State capital on 25th May 2022.
The State Coordinator, NCC Port-Harcourt Office, Mrs. Nkechi Ezinma who led a team of Copyright Inspectors to the FRSC office explained that the visit was undertaken to strengthen the relationship between the two agencies which had been collaborating in the actualisation of their mandates.
The State Coordinator further said the visit was an opportunity to interact with the new Sector Commander of the FRSC in the State, Cc Salisu Galadunci who recently assumed duty in the State. Mrs. Ezinma also used the opportunity to explain the mandate of the Commission in the protection of copyright works across various categories and curbing the activities of pirates in the state in line with the provisions of the Copyright Act.
The FRSC Sector Commander, in his response, commended the NCC operatives for their visit to FRSC and reaffirmed his organisation’s support and cooperation in ensuring that the NCC successfully carried out its mandate of checking piracy in the State.
A major highlight of the visit was the presentation of a copy of the Copyright Act to the FRSC Sector Commander by the NCC, State Coordinator.
Meanwhile, operatives NCC Port-Harcourt Office also paid a courtesy call on the Disc Jockeys Association of Nigeria (DJAN) Rivers State Chapter on 28th June, 2022 in Port-Harcourt, Rivers State.
The State Coordinator, Mrs. Nkechi Ezinma revealed that the visit was aimed at briefing members on the resolutions of the consultative meeting between DJAN and Musical Copyright Society of Nigeria (MCSN) held on 16th February 2022 in Abuja.
The SC further informed members of DJAN in the state that the Memorandum of Association between DJAN and MCSN would spell out the terms of engagement, obligations and appropriate tariff structure and enforcement modalities in the payment of royalties.
Mrs. Ezinma also stressed that the NCC was interested in the right owners being adequately rewarded for their intellectual investments through collection of adequate royalties and improvement of the business dealings of DJS and musicians as well.
Responding, the State Chairman of DJAN, Mr. Charles Wobodo commended the NCC team for the visit while promising the Commission of its cooperation and partnership.
DJAN was also represented at the meeting by the State Treasurer, Mr. MacDonald Jack and Mr. Henry Jackreece, among others.
The NCC State Coordinator was accompanied on the visit by Mr. Alubo Inalegwu, Mrs. Chetachi Onuobia and Mrs. Merit Johnny all of the NCC, Port-Harcourt Office.
