AS part of activities to commemorate the 2023 World Intellectual Property Day and the World Book and Copyright Day, the Director, NCC Makurdi Office Mrs. Olufunmilayo Adewale led the office on thanksgiving and enlightenment programmes.
While responding to callers’ questions, during a live phone-in programme on Radio Benue, 24th April 2023, Mrs. Adewale assured of the Commission’s unrelenting efforts at curbing copyright piracy to ensure adequate returns on intellectual and financial investment in all creative sector.
Also, the Director, in company of other staff, attended a thanksgiving Mass at St. Theresa Catholic Church, High Level, Makurdi on 26th April to mark the World IP Day and for the successful celebration of the 2023 Copyright week.
Presenting copies of What is Copyright, the Commission’s publication, to the Parish Priest, Rev. Father Gabriel Oduh Ameh, Mrs Adewale called on all stakeholders to join in the fight against piracy and other forms of intellectual property abuses, describing piracy as a monster that destroys creativity, steals from right owners and destroys the nation’s economy.
She restated the commitment of the Commission to sanitise the copyright ecosystem and noted that with the recently signed Copyright Act, 2022, copyright administration in Nigeria is no longer business as usual.
