NCC Lagos Copyright Week

As part of the Copyright Week activities, Mrs. Alphaeus also participated as a panelist in a webinar hosted on April 24, 2025, by leading IP law firm Aluko & Oyebode to commemorate World Intellectual Property Day 2025.
The webinar focused on the role of intellectual property in the music industry and covered key topics such as copyright protection for musical works, trademark use for artist branding, music licensing, and royalties. The session offered valuable guidance for composers, performers, and music industry stakeholders.
The Commission’s activities culminated in a collaborative event on 28th April, 2025, organized with the Nigerian Institute of Advanced Legal Studies (NIALS) and the Intellectual Property Club of the Faculty of Law, University of Lagos.
Held at the Ayo Ojomo Auditorium, University of Lagos, the event featured panel discussions, a debate competition, and live music performances, creating an interactive and educational experience for participants.
Representing the Director-General, NCC, Dr. John Asein, Mrs. Alphaeus delivered the DG’s goodwill message and participated in a critical panel session titled: “Don’t Sign That Yet! What Every Artist Needs to Know Before Signing a Deal.” The discussion addressed key contract considerations for artistes and featured prominent intellectual property experts.
During her remarks, Mrs. Alphaeus emphasized the importance of copyright registration and advised music creators to affiliate with Collective Management Organisations (CMOs) to better manage and protect their rights and royalties.
The 2025 Copyright Week events reaffirmed the NCC’s commitment to fostering copyright awareness, protecting creators’ rights, and promoting the growth of Nigeria’s creative industries.
