THE Nigerian Copyright Commission (NCC) Uyo Office has embarked on sensitisation outreaches to facilitate implementation of the approved Copyright Levy Order by the Nigeria Custom Service (NCS) at the borders of Ikang, Bakassi Local Government Area and Oron in Akwa Ibom State.

The NCC State Coordinator, Mr. Elijah Akpan, revealed that the sensitisation outreaches were carried out between 22nd and 23rdNovember 2022 during which discussions on areas of interagency collaboration for effective take-off of the Levy Order were held.

According to him, the visits facilitated interactive discussions with the Heads of the NCS Posts at the borders and the presentation of the Memorandum of Understanding between the Commission and the NCS for study and necessary action.

The Head of NCS Command at the Ikang border, Deputy Superintendent of Customs, Sobajo Jenius and DSC Jacob Essien, next in command to the Head of Customs Command, Oron border assured the NCC team of compliance with components of the MoU. He, however, noted the slow rate of activities at the borders due to the border closure order of the Federal Government.

He observed that the visit was in line with the briefing by the NCC Director of Operations, Mr. Obi Ezeilo that State Offices should familiarise with NCS border posts under their jurisdiction; discuss the MoU on antipiracy collaboration between the NCC and the NCS; and initiate consultative discussions towards proactive implementation of the Federal Government approval of the Copyright Levy Order.
