NCC, DSS Partner on Intelligence Sharing and Training

THE Nigerian Copyright Commission (NCC) Port Harcourt Office and the Directorate of State Services (DSS) Port Harcourt Directorate have agreed to partner in the areas of intelligence sharing and training of employees of both organisations to enhance copyright protection in Rivers State.

The Director Port Harcourt Office(DPO), Mr. Collins Nweke,  revealed this during his courtesy visit to the DSS State Director in Rivers State, Mr. Shittu Mohammed on 25th October 2022.

The DPO who was received by the DSS State Director explained that his visit was to consolidate the existing relationship between the NCC and the DSS in the State particularly in the areas of providing security backup to the NCC during copyright antipiracy operations in the State. He expressed appreciation to the DSS for granting the NCC access to the DSS detention facility for detention of arrested piracy suspects.”.

Speaking further, the DPO solicited more intelligence sharing between the two organisations to check copyright piracy of all forms at different locations with emphasis on activities in respect of shipping containers with copyright content at Port Harcourt sea port.

Reacting to the request for intelligence sharing between the two bodies, the DSS Director noted that it was imperative for the two organisations to form an intelligence team to effectively carry out the mandate of checking piracy in the State. He assured that the DSS would use that platform to train officers of the Commission on intelligence gathering.

A major highlight of the visit was the sensitisation training for staff of the DSS on copyright which was carried out by the DPO. The visit ended with the presentation of an NCC branded plaque to the Director, DSS Rivers State from the DPO in appreciation of the support of the DSS to the NCC Port Harcourt Office.
