NCC Bauchi Office Celebrates World Book and Copyright Day, Organises Reading Fair for Students

IN commemoration of the 2024 World Book and Copyright Day, the Bauchi Office of the Nigerian Copyright Commission (NCC) organised a Reading Fair for secondary school students in the state to foster knowledge of literary works and respect for copyright.
The event which took place at the National Library Bauchi, on 23rd April 2024 was in line with UNESCO’s focus on books and celebration of authors, promoting the culture of reading, encouraging non-discriminatory access to knowledge and raising copyright awareness with the theme for the year Read Your Way.
Delivering the DG, NCC’s Goodwill Message on the occasion, State Director, NCC Bauchi Office, Mr.Michael Madueke expressed the Commission’s gratitude to participants while encouraging students to embrace creativity and explore their potentials. He informed that the celebration was dedicated to Nigeria’s Nobel Laureate, Literary Icon and UNESCO’s goodwill ambassador, Prof, Wole Soyinka as he turns 90 on 13th July, 2024.
In his opening remarks, Chairman of the occasion, Professor Mansur Malumfashi, lauded the Nigerian Copyright Commission for its commendable gesture in honoring the iconic Nobel Laureate, Professor Wole Soyinka. Prof. Malumfashi also paid glowing tributes to the renowned writer.
Highlights of the event, which had in attendance students from 8 secondary schools within the state, included fascinating performances like reading of selected passages and acting of scenes from Soyinka’s prose and plays such as; “The Man Died”, “Ake”, and “The Lion and the Jewel”. There were also recitations of some of Soyinka’s poems by the students.
