Chief Sunday Adeniyi Adegeye (MFR) is a legendary Nigerian Juju musician, songwriter and multi instrumentalist who was born on September 22 1946.

Sunny Ade first formed his musical band known as African Beats in 1967. The band achieved so much success in Nigeria in the 70’s and the 80’s. He signed to the record label ‘Island Records’ in 1982 leading to the production of the highly successful albums ‘Juju Music ‘ (1982) and ‘Synchro System’ (1983) with the latter garnering him a Grammy nomination.

Sunny Ade’s music is characterized by instruments such as the talking drum which is largely indigenous to Western Nigeria. His style of music is characterized by the age old tradition of singing poetic lyrics.

King Sunny Ade introduced many unique musical instruments into the Juju music repetoire making him a very innovative creator.His magnificent stage presence is characterized by his skilful dance display and mastery of many musical instruments.

A highly revered Nigerian musician,
Sunny Ade’s music has also garnered him global recognition with the New York Times describing him as one of the best great band leaders.

King Sunny Ade has received numerous awards and recognition during his illustrious career spanning many decades. In 2016, he became a recipient of AFRIMA Award. He was also inducted into the Hard Rock Cafe Hall of Fame in 2016 and the Headies Hall of Fame in 2020.

King Sunny Ade who has served in the past as Board Chairman of Musical Copyright Society of Nigeria(MCSN) is currently the Honorary President of the Society.
