THE Director-General, Nigerian Copyright Commission (NCC), Dr. John Asein, has called on members of the Gospel Musicians Association of Nigeria (GOMAN) to always respect to Copyright.
The DG-NCC made this call during the 40th anniversary of the group at Shepherds Flock International Church Ikeja, 16th October 2024.
Dr. Asein who was the key speaker at the event, highlighted the importance of copyright awareness among gospel musicians and the broader music industry. He emphasised that understanding copyright laws is crucial for respecting and protecting the creative rights of artistes and ensuring fair compensation for their work.
While reaffirming the Commission’s commitment to supporting Nigerian artistes by providing guidance on copyright issues and fostering a more sustainable creative environment, he encouraged musicians to respect copyright and acknowledge the contributions of other artistes.
Meanwhile, the DG-NCC has commended Audio Visual Rights Society of Nigeria (AVRS) the Collective Management Organisation (CMO) for Audiovisual works in Nigeria, for maintaining high standards by adhering to laid down regulations for their operations.
The DG’s commendation was presented during the Society’s eighth Annual General Meeting (AGM) in Lagos , 23rd October, 2024.
The DG who was represented at the event by the Director, Lagos office, Mrs. Lynda Alphaeus, commended AVRS for adhering to legal standards and encouraged them to intensify their efforts at representing their members.
Highlight of the event was the re-election of four Board members. Mr. Mahmood Ali-Balogun, the current Chairman of the Board was re-elected to serve another term.
The AGM was attended by AVRS Board members, veteran filmmakers and actors from across the country.
