DJAN Confers Copyright Creative Icon of the Year on DG NCC
DIRECTOR-GENERAL, Nigerian Copyright Commission (NCC) Dr. John O. Asein, has been conferred the Copyright Creative Icon of the Year at the Nigerian Deejays Awards 2024 held at Chida International Hotel, Abuja on 7th December 2024.

The Award was conferred by the Deejays Association of Nigeria (DJAN) in recognition of his outstanding contribution to the growth of the Nigerian creative industry, the copyright ecosystem and the music industry.

In his remarks, the DG NCC, commended the Deejays Association of Nigeria (DJAN) for organising the maiden edition of the Awards to consolidate on the progress made in the last few years. “As NCC, we have seen them from the very outset and are happy not only to work with and encourage them but also to add value to what they are doing as transmitters of music and content creators in their own rights.”

Dr. Asein also highlighted the role of DJs in the creative ecosystem and underscored their importance as music transmitters and content creators, encouraging them to see their work as a pathway to wealth creation. He also reaffirmed the commission’s commitment to protecting creators’ rights and its readiness to launch regulatory frameworks to guide them.

Welcoming participants to the award ceremony, the DJAN National President, Mr. Onyebuchi Christian Edeh (DJ Perfect Int’l) commended the DG NCC for the Commission’s support to DJAN over the years. He informed that Deejays are vital players in the music industry as they shape trends, promote artistes and serve as cultural ambassadors.

The Nigerian Deejay Awards, he noted, seeks to celebrate the creative influence of DJs in the Nigerian music and entertainment landscape. It is aimed at recognising and celebrating achievements of Nigerian deejays and their contributions to the growth of the Nigerian music industry; inspire future generations of Deejays; showcase Disc Jockey as a legitimate and influential career path and promote professionalism within the DJ community, Mr. Edeh added.

Annual Award presents a platform to honour and recognise Deejays and others in the entertainment value chain who have contributed significantly to the growth of the entertainment industry.
Highlights of the ceremony was the unveiling and launching of the Deejays Magazine “The Scorecard” and conferment of Awards on DJs and Partners who have made significant contributions to the Disc Jockey business in Nigeria and globally which include categories such as: Best Club DJ; Best Radio DJ; Best Afrobeat DJ; DJ of the Year; Best Female DJ and Best Event DJ.
