PROFILE OF OBI EZEILO

DIRECTOR AND HEAD OF OPERATIONS DEPARMENT

 

Mr Obi Ezeilo is the Director of Operations, Nigerian Copyright Commission. He read Law in University of Nigeria, graduating in 1988 and was called to the Nigerian Bar in 1989. He commenced private legal practice in Enugu in 1989 and later joined the Nigerian Copyright Commission in 1998.

He has taken several trainings and participated in different programmes in copyright. He attended the International Law Enforcement Academy, Gaborone Botswana which is an arm of US Immigration and Customs Enforcement and Homeland Security in 2013; the Global Intellectual Property Academy, United States Patent and Trade Mark Office, Virginia USA in 2010; Economic and Financial Crimes Commission Training and RFG Research Institute, Karu, Abuja in 2008; the Centre for advanced Study and Research on Intellectual Property (CASRIP) Summer Programme on Patent and Intellectual Property Rights in University of Washington, Seattle, United States in 2004 etc. He was a member of the Expert Working Group that drafted the new Copyright Bill that is awaiting passage by the National Assembly. He led several copyright law enforcement operations carried out by the Commission. As the Director of Enforcement, he oversees the investigation of copyright offenders by the Commission, including online infringement.
