AUTHORS and other copyright owners have been advised to take advantage of the Commission’s e-Registration platform as a step to further protect their works.
The Director, NCC Kaduna Office, Mrs. Susan Bashorun made the call at a seminar organised by the Nigerian Film and Video Censors Board (NFVCB) Kaduna Office in collaboration with the Motion Picture Practitioners Association of Nigeria (MOPPAN) Kaduna Chapter on 25th May 2023.
Mrs. Bashorun used the opportunity to educate participants on the basics of copyright and the ills of piracy. She enlightened the participants on the anti-piracy provisions in the new Copyright Act while reiterating that it is no longer business as usual for pirates as there are now stiffer penalties in the new Act for offenders. She encouraged participants and right owners to obtain copies of the Act and familiarise themselves with the provisions.
The Seminar themed “Content Drives Distribution: The Role of NFVCB and Stakeholders in Regulation in an Evolving Society” was attended by stakeholders from Kannywood, script writers and a host of others.
Speaking at the occasion, the special guest and former president of MOPPAN Alhaji Abdullahi Maikano Usman highlighted the qualities of a good script writer and urged script writers to write sellable scripts that will contribute to the development of the nation.
The Head of NFVCB, Kaduna Office, Mrs. Blessing Akwash spoke extensively on the topic Censorship and Classification of Films during the seminar.
In another development, the Director, NCC Kaduna Office, Mrs Susan Bashorun on behalf of the Director-General of the Commission on the 24th May, 2023 presented a plaque and prize to Master Salihu Abdulahi of Essence International School, Kaduna who clinched the second position in the poetry category in the 2023 National Creative Writing Competition organised by NCC.
Mrs. Bashorun congratulated Master Salihu for his outstanding performance and encouraged him not to relent in his effort at creative writing while imploring him to be good ambassador of the Commission wherever he finds himself.
