Copyright Commission Redeems Pledge as Young Authors Unveil Book On SDGs

THE Nigerian Copyright Commission (NCC) has redeemed its pledge of assisting young authors to publish their books.

The Director-General, NCC, Dr. John O. Asein made this disclosure during the unveiling and presentation of “WELLBEING”, a book on Social Development Goals (SDGs) jointly authored by four graduating pupils of iRead Network and iRise Model School, Lagos on 15th July 2022

The pupils who authored the book, Iretomiwa Elizabeth Fatukasi, Rani Cherish Abraham, Sophie Mawena Aji-Afanu and Okikiola Toyibat Adewoye had participated in a symposium organised by the Embassy of the United States to commemorate the 2022 World Intellectual Property Day on 26th April in Lagos.

In an encounter with the Director-General during the symposium, the pupils had informed Dr. Asein of their challenge in a bid to publish their book on SDGs.

The Director-General who pledged Commission’s support in the area of publishing the book redeemed the pledge through the support of one of its stakeholders in the book industry, Accessible Publishing Limited while the unveiling and presentation of the book held at American Corner School, Airport Road, near Concord Press, Ikeja, Lagos.

Dr. Asein commended the young authors for their diligence in writing the book and urged other young creatives to start putting their talents to work.

Noting that writing could be a major source of income creative minds, the Director-General promised that the Commission would continue to work hard to ensure that copyright works were fully protected “to ensure that authors get returns on their intellectual exertions”.
