THE Nigerian Copyright Commission (NCC), Enugu Office has taken a bold step in the fight against book piracy raiding a school, Ebenezer International School in Obollo-Afor, Enugu State on 13th November 2024.
State Coordinator, NCC Enugu Office,Mrs. Ngozi Okeke said the Commission’s action was prompted by a complaint from an author Ms. Ijeoma Odinko, who reported the illegal use of her books titled: “Basic Computer Studies,” “Basic Civic Education,” and “Basic History” in the school.
Mrs Okeke further revealed that the Principal of the school, Pastor Chijioke Mama, was arrested, and 106 copies of suspected pirated books valued at over N1.1 million were confiscated.
The anti-piracy operation was led by officers of the Commission, backed by armed Polices officers.
Meanwhile, as part of its commitment to protect the intellectual property rights of authors and creators, officers of Enugu Office inspected several schools, bookshops and other outlets involved in the production of copyright materials within the month of November and December 2024.
This initiative underscores the Commission’s commitment to combat piracy and protect the creative works of authors.
