Dr. Asein Calls for Cooperation Among Audiovisual Stakeholders

THE Director General, Nigerian Copyright Commission (NCC) Dr. John O. Asein has called for cooperation among stakeholders in the audiovisual sector.

The DG NCC, stated this at the Audio Visual Rights Society of Nigeria (AVRS), Stakeholders Forum held in Asaba, Delta State, 21st September 2023.

Dr. Asein, who was represented by the Onitsha State Coordinator, Mr. Gabriel Anikwem, appreciated the efforts of the Management and Staff of AVRS  for their commitment to their mandate and urged all stakeholders including: Movies Directors, Producers, Scriptwriters, filmmakers, Actors and actresses and Hoteliers to partner with AVRS for their individual benefits and the well-being of the creative industry.

Highlighting the advantages of Copyright Registration Scheme, he called on all owners of copyright works to register their works with the Commission in order to enjoy the full benefits of the scheme. He encouraged stakeholders to take full advantage of the provisions of the new Copyright Act 2022 which make copyright infringement a criminal offence in Nigeria.

Also speaking at the event, the National Chairman of AVRS Mr. Mahmood Ali-Balogun and AVRS  Consultant Dr. Chinedu Chukwudi, in their respective addresses thanked the Director General and Nigerian Copyright Commission for setting a good playing ground for the Society to thrive and appealed to stakeholders to support the efforts of the Commission by reporting suspected pirates, outlets and their accomplices to NCC.

Highpoint of the occasion was a questions  and answers session bordering on issues of Copyright infringements, registration of works and other related matters handled by the State Coordinator.
