Some of the areas that have attracted comments in the recent past are: the need to domesticate the provisions of the WIPO Internet treaties; digital rights management; technological protection measures; the liability of Internet service providers; need for clear provisions on the obligations of producers and publishers of copyright works; more effective and deterrent penalties for copyright offences; as well as the provision of preemptive mechanisms to address online piracy.
The Commission is using this medium to invite inputs, comments and suggestions from copyright experts and stakeholders in the creative industries as well as the general public towards the amendment process. The text of the Act is available on the Commission’s website and may be obtained from the Commission’s Head Office.
