The Nigerian Copyright Commission (NCC) in another renewed anti-piracy offensive in Bayelsa State has confiscated broadcast contrivances worth Six million five hundred thousand Naira (N6,500,000) with the arrest of two suspects during an anti-piracy raid in Yenagoa on May 26th, 2017.
According to Director of Enforcement NCC, Mr. Augustine Amodu who disclosed this in a report at the Commission’s headquarter Abuja, items confiscated were equipments and materials used for illegal redistribution of DSTV broadcast signals.
Mr. Amodu stated that 75 Decoders, 21 pieces of Smartcards, 4 Stabilizers, 12 pieces of Boosters, 1 LCD, 1 MPS Player, 2 Splitters, 1 Extension box and 2 Transmitters were confiscated from the suspects.
The operation which was carried out after strategic planning and surveillance was executed at Igbogene area in Yenagoa where the two suspects Robinson Afoko and Godday Solomon were arrested and other targets at Okutukutu, Umpadec, Amarata and back of BDS respectively all in Yenagoa.
A Combined team of Copyright Inspectors in collaboration with Staff of Multichoice Nigeria, Armed Mobile Policemen and Naval officers carried out the anti-piracy raids in the designated areas. Arrested suspects were granted administrative bail while investigation continues.
