NCC Confiscates Pirated Literary Works, Arrests 16 Suspects

The Nigerian Copyright Commission, NCC, has confiscated pirated literary works belonging to different publishing outfits from a printing outlet Zobak Nigeria Limited and arrested 16 suspects in Lagos on September 4, 2014.

A report from the Zonal Manager,(ZM),Lagos, Mr. Chris Nkwocha , stated that the anti-piracy raid was carried out at No. 56,Abayomi Street, off Cole Street, Lawanson, Lagos.Books seized during the raid include; Brighter Grammar Book 1 published by Pearson Publishers; West African Examination Council, WAEC, published works; English Phonetics for Nursery, Primary Basic 4 written by Pauline Edah and published by Cardinal Publishers; Nigeria, Biafra and Boko Haram written by Osita Ebiem and published by Page publishing.

Other works seized include Awo: Unfinished Greatness published by Pace Publishing; Premier English for Nigerian

Primary Schools, Revised Edition by Macmillan Publishers; Lonely Days written by Bayo Adebowale, published by Spectrum Books and Everlasting Kingdom written by Kevin Chinenyeze Nnosiri  and published by Bounciness Concepts.

Further information from the document revealed that a number of items were seized during the operation such as printed flyers, wall stickers, and medicine bottle covers with the company name ‘GSK’ imprinted.

The report revealed also that the Manager of the Printing Press Mr. Donald Eberedum was arrested alongside 15 other suspects while the Chief Executive Officer of the outfit Engr. Charles Chukwudum is expected to report to the Commission for further investigation.
