A report recently released at the NCC Headquarters stated that the team during the operation carried out in the Ijora, Ikotun and Igandu areas of Lagos removed about five thousand copies of pirated works valued at One Million Naira (N1,000,000.00) and arrested eight suspected pirates.
The impounded titles include “Oyenusi” by Olaska Films; “Oba Odefuwumi” by Okeki Films; “Kofo Ola” by Adekan Films. Other local titles are “Aja aremo”Part 1&2; “Afara Oyin” Part 1&2 and “Okunkun” Part 1&2.
Some of the foreign works seized are “Someone is watching”; “Raw Deal”; “Rambo”; “Until Death” and “Fire for Fire”. According to the report some DVD Sets, Speakers and a TV set were also impounded during the raid.
In a similar development, operatives of the Nigerian Copyright Commission (NCC), on March 9, 2015 raided a bookshop located within the premises of the Nigerian Law School Enugu owned by one Mrs. Oniekoro and seized some copies of suspected pirated book, ‘Practical Approach to Criminal Litigation” a Law book written by J.A.Agaba.
The enforcement action which was carried out after a thorough surveillance was on the orders of the Director of Enforcement, NCC, Mr. Augustine Amodu, and led to the removal of 2 copies of the suspected pirated law book valued at Thirteen thousand Naira (N13, 000.00) and some other office materials.
