NCC, Stakeholders Inspects N70 Million Container of Pirated books

A Container carrying Thirty Thousand (30, 000) copies of pirated literary works valued at Seventy Million Naira (N70, 000, 000) was recently inspected by Officers of the Nigerian Copyright Commission (NCC) in collaboration with officers of Nigeria Customs Services (NCS) and members of Nigerian Publishers Association (NPA) at the AP Moller Terminal Apapa, Lagos.

The 1.170 Feet, Thirty Thousand, Four Hundred and Eighty (30, 480) Kilograms Container with number "MRSU 0099184" was loaded with various pirated books belonging to different right holders.Zonal Manager, Lagos Office of the Commission and Team Leader of the Operation Mr. Chris Nkwocha who disclosed this in a report noted the operation was carried out on  July 14, 2015.

He said some of the pirated titles examined included Quantitative Techniques by Tervy Lucey, Sixth Edition, Published by South-Western Cengage-learning; Theory of Econometrics by A. Koutsoyiannis, Second Edition, Published by Palgrave Macmillan; Webster's Universal Dictionary & Thesaurus by Geddes & Grosset, Published by Geddes & Grosset.According to him other works inspected included Business Mathematics by Q. Zameeruddin V. K. Khanna & SK Bhambri, Published by Vikas Publishing House PVT LTD and Frank Wood's Business Accounting 2 by Frank Wood & Alan Sangster Twelfth Edition, Published by Pearson.

The Zonal Manager said the inspection is a huge success in the Commission's fight against piracy and assured that investigation aimed at bringing the owners and culprits to justice has already begun.
