NCC Confiscates Optical Disc and Duplicating Machines Worth N2.4 Million

Operatives of the Nigerian Copyright Commission (NCC) have raided an outlet, located at Sapele Road by Ikpokpan Ogbelaka off Sapele Road, Textile Mill Road, Oreoghene off Siluko Road, Ramat Park, Forestry off Akpakpava, on the 9th of September, 2015 in Benin City, Edo State.

Acting on intelligence and surveillance report, Copyright inspectors led by Mr. Ajang Joseph Officer, backed by a contingent of armed policemen from Operation Edo State Command stormed the outlet that engages in illegal duplication, distribution of optical disc works and impounded 2,218 copies of suspected infringing DVDs and musical CDs worth Two million, four hundred thousand naira (N2.4m).

The Director of Enforcement, Mr. Amodu, who disclosed this in a report in Abuja, stated that eight persons were arrested during the operation and their names are: Samuel Okorie, Obowaiti Harrison, Godstime Lasisi, Frank Agharese, Emeka Aputazie, Jonathan Okeke, Beauty Okojie and Nwameka Okorafor.

Mr. Amodu explained that investigation has since commenced with a view to prosecuting the arrested suspects.
