The Director-General, Nigerian Copyright Commission (NCC) Mr. Afam Ezekude, has stressed the need for adequate security backup for Enforcement officers of the Commission.

Mr Ezekude, who started this when he visited the Commandant General, Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) Mr. Abdulahi Gana Muhammadu, in Abuja on March 15, 2016 to seek collaboration in areas of security backup during antipiracy operations, congratulated Mr. Muhammadu on his new appointment as the Head of the NSCDC.

The DG, represented at the event by Director, Enforcement, Mr. Augustine Amodu, commended the quick approval of the Commission's request for the use of NSCDC detention facilities across the country.

He explained that the non-arms bearing nature of the Commission is a major challenge in the enforcement of Copyright adding that although Copyright Inspectors have same powers as the Police they are a non-arms bearing enforcement agency.

In his response the Commandant General, NSSDC welcomed the NCC team and commended the efforts of the Commission at fighting piracy, noting that the mandate of the Commission is quite demanding. "I don't envy you, piracy is increasing by the day. If you have Armed men among you it will go a long way and you will achieve more" he stressed.

He further bemoaned the rate of piracy in the country and expressed readiness to support the efforts of Commission at combating piracy.

He assured that the Civil Defence Corps will always partner with the Commission adding that officers of the Defence will be made available for enforcement training and activities. "Civil Defence is here for you, even if you a squad or a team to be attached to you, we will provide" he further stressed.

Other Directors of the Commission at the event include Mr. Okon E. Odokwe, Director, Administration; Mr. Jackson Ekwere, Deputy Director, Enforcement and Mr. Adewusi Aderemi, Deputy Director.
